What is g-tron?
At Audi, the term g-tron stands for our CNG models (CNG = Compressed Natural Gas) that can be run primarily on natural gas and renewable methane, with petrol as a back-up drive. The Audi g-tron models – the A3 Sportback, A4 Avant and A5 Sportback – bring together sportiness, design and everyday usability. In Germany, more than 50% of CNG filling stations are now supplied with 100% biomethane (as at October 2020). This means that, as an Audi g-tron customer, you will be able to reduce your carbon footprint when driving by more than 80% compared with the user of an equivalent petrol car.
Do I have to drive differently?
The Audi g-tron models bring together Audi’s familiar sportiness and progressive design language – without constraining the driver. Acceleration is just as dynamic as in a purely petrol-driven Audi. There are two (A3 g-tron) or four (A4 and A5 g-tron) GFK/CFK gas cylinders installed in the g-tron models that combine stability with lightweight construction. In the Audi A3 g-tron a compact steel tank is also installed in front of the rear axle for CNG storage. The low-lying gas tanks do not affect the driving experience. The differences between these models and a normal Audi: a second fuel gauge for the CNG tank and considerably lower fuel costs (as at October 2020). And, as the driver, you will have a clear conscience about the environment, because in addition to the aforementioned CO₂ reduction, the harmful emissions produced by the combustion of natural gas or biomethane are very low.
